You’re Invited to Join Ohio Wesleyan for University’s November 2023 Lineup of Public Events
DELAWARE, Ohio – Ohio Wesleyan University today announced its November 2023 lineup of public events. Unless otherwise noted, admission is free.
8 p.m. Nov. 3-4 – “Spooked,” an exploration of “the deliciously dark side of musical theatre” featuring scenes from “Sweeney Todd,” “Ride the Cyclone,” and “The Addams Family.” The performance is directed by associate professor Jennifer Whitehead and held in Jemison Auditorium inside Sanborn Hall, 23 Elizabeth St., Delaware. 8 p.m. Nov. 3, 10, and 17 – Friday night skywatches, at Perkins Observatory, 3199 Columbus Pike (U.S. 23), Delaware. Content varies based on weather conditions, but may include a planetarium show, observatory tours, and stargazing with the 32-inch Schottland Telescope. 2-3 p.m. Nov. 4 – Open Studio Day with the OWU Department of Fine Arts, in Edgar Hall, 35 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. Open Studio Day will include demonstrations, informational sessions, and presentations in many of the studio and classroom spaces on all four floors of the Fine Arts building. Guests will be able to meet Ohio Wesleyan professors and learn more about the OWU Fine Arts experience. Visitors also will be able to see a special exhibit of works created by high school students in the Buckeye Valley, Delaware City, and Olentangy school districts. This exhibit will be on display in the Werner Gallery through Nov. 15. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday when classes are in session. Admission is free. 7:30 p.m. Nov. 4 – A Cappellooza, OWU’s annual voices-only showcase, in Gray Chapel inside University Hall, 61 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. The 10th-anniversary concert will feature performances by Ohio Wesleyan’s Pitch Black and OWtsiders. The professional, five-member group Radius also will headline the show. A Cappellooza tickets are $5 general admission for individuals outside of OWU and may be purchased at owu.edu/acappellooza via Eventbrite. The concert is free for Ohio Wesleyan students and employees with valid university IDs. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. A Cappellooza is organized by OWU’s student Campus Programming Board. 8 p.m. Nov. 10 and 2 p.m. Nov. 11-12 – Orchesis 23/24, a contemporary dance concert featuring original choreography and performances by Ohio Wesleyan student dancers. Directed by instructor Janet Schroeder, the concert will be performed in Chappelear Drama Center, 45 Rowland Ave., Delaware. The theme of Orchesis 23/24 is individuality, reflecting the ways the cast works as a community to uplift each dancer. “Whether filled with intrigue, suspense, and drama or everyday themes, the pieces on this concert showcase the strengths of each dancer and choreographer,” Schroeder says. Nov. 14-March 24, 2024 – “Move: Mobility, Migration, and Belonging,” at Ohio Wesleyan’s Richard M. Ross Art Museum, 60 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. The exhibition of work by significant local and regional artists is curated to coincide with OWU’s first-year seminar, “How to Change Your World.” The course explores a pressing issue in contemporary life. The Ross Art Museum’s companion exhibit showcases artistic practices that consider how water has affected movement and belonging across history, place, and species. During the academic year, the museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. It will be closed for Thanksgiving break from Nov. 20-24; for winter break from Dec. 17-Jan. 16, 2024; and for spring break from March 9-17, 2024.
