Solar Canopy Parking Information
Ohio Wesleyan University continues to build its bold, bright future with the most ambitious solar energy initiative in Ohio higher education!
From September through mid-February, crews will add solar carport canopies in six OWU parking lots. Temporary lot closures are necessary to allow workers to move large equipment safely while they install 15-foot carport pillars, pour concrete to secure them, and add the canopy arms and solar panels needed to generate green energy. For your safety, never enter a construction zone. (All dates are weather-dependent).
Schimmel/Conrades Science Center Parking Lot
The lot will be closed late Oct. 31 for solar panel installation beginning Nov. 2. The work is expected to take about a week. After the panels are in place, only short-term, small-section closures will be needed during the project. The ADA spaces on the northwest corner of the lot will remain open throughout the installation. Alternate parking locations include Phillips Hall, Edgar Hall, Selby Stadium, and Edwards Gymnasium.
Bradford Milligan Hall Parking Lot
The lot will be closed starting Oct. 17. The ADA spaces on the north side of the lot will be maintained throughout the construction. Alternate parking locations include The 1842 and Jay Martin Soccer Complex lots, as well as temporary off-campus parking at the Delaware Shopping Center.
Smith Hall Parking Lot
The lot will be closed throughout the winter break (approximately Dec. 19-Jan. 9) for solar canopy installation. Weather permitting, crews will try to complete the work while students are away. We will provide updates as needed.
Meek Aquatics and Recreation Center Parking Lot
The lot will be closed beginning late Oct. 22 for solar canopy installation and for material and equipment storage. Alternate parking locations include the Selby Stadium lot, as well as temporary off-campus parking at the Delaware Shopping Center.
Jay Martin Soccer Complex Parking Lot
Minimal lot closure will begin on the evening of Nov. 13 (watch for the tall orange cones), with canopy installation from Nov. 16 to Feb. 16, 2027. Work will begin after completion of the regular fall soccer season. Limited parking will be available during installation; alternate parking locations include the Selby and Meek lots.
Selby Stadium Parking Lot
Minimal lot closure will begin on the evening of Dec. 8 (watch for the tall orange cones), with canopy installation from Dec. 9 to Feb. 5, 2027. Work will begin after completion of the final fall games at the stadium. Limited parking will be available during installation; alternate parking locations include the Meek lot.
