Being a First-Generation college student at OWU means...

That the student's parent(s)/legal guardian(s) did not complete a 4-year (Bachelor's) degree, regardless of other family members' level of education.

Nearly 30% of Ohio Wesleyan's student body are First-Generation College students.

As a parent or family member of a First-Gen student, we want you to feel confident that OWU has support systems in place to set your student on a path to greatness. And most importantly, they are not alone, and neither are you! Ohio Wesleyan President Matt vandenBerg shared this sentiment at a United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) forum Sept. 24 on student success in postsecondary education:

We have set out to become a premier destination in the U.S. for first-generation college students. Ohio Wesleyan is a place where students will find access to higher education, find their path, find success, find belonging, and transform themselves.
