It all began with a charitable yoga class at a musical festival she attended in 2010. It only took Loretta Zedella, yoga instructor at Ohio Wesleyan, until the fall of that year to found a non-profit yoga foundation of her own, and by spring 2011, Yoga Outreach Columbus had held its first event. “It proves that one person can make a huge difference,” Zedella said.

The second Yoga Outreach Columbus convention is scheduled for  10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 1, in Benes rooms of OWU’s Hamilton-Williams Campus Center. Classes will be taught by yoga instructors from the Columbus area. The 10 a.m class will offer a rigorous sequence of vinyasa flow, while the 2 p.m class will include a mild Hatha yoga.

The ticket price for each class is $20 for students and $25 for adults. Both class packages may also be purchased by students for $35 and $45 for adults. All proceeds from the event will  benefit the “Off the Mat into the World,” Mid-Ohio Foodbank, and People in Need organizations.

Zedella has instructed yoga classes at Ohio Wesleyan since 2004. Her classes have helped students learn yoga technique and find peace and harmony through the daily stresses of academic life. “I think everybody should take yoga,” said Tyler Fordyce ’12. “You always feel so much better afterwards.”

Mark your calendars and save the date. Namaste!
