Women’s Golf Wins at Ohio Northern
The Ohio Wesleyan women’s golf team picked up right where it left off last season, building and improving each week.
Last weekend, the Battling Bishops won the Ohio Northern Polar Bear Classic, with the six-team tournament marking the largest field the Bishops have defeated in their four seasons as a varsity sport. Ohio Wesleyan’s last win came in March of this year in a three-team tournament at Savannah State.
Junior Courtney Tincher led the team, winning medalist honors, as Ohio Wesleyan shot a combined 358 to defeat the host team by 11 strokes. The second day of the tournament was canceled because of the rains overnight Saturday and the forecast for more rain on Sunday.
Women’s golf coach Jana Shipley said despite the score of 83, Tincher did a great job even with the weather being a major factor.
“There were brutal conditions on Saturday,” Shipley said. “We played in standing water on the greens, where you could hit the ball as hard as you wanted and it only went five feet; it was nearly impossible. So the 83 was a lot better than it sounded.”
Sophomore Amy Greenwood tied for third, shooting an 87, and joined Tincher on the all-tournament team.
Ohio Wesleyan wraps up the fall portion of its schedule this weekend at Wittenberg’s Pat Clouse Invitational.
