Veteran Journalist to Discuss Global Financial Crisis, Implications

DELAWARE, OHIO – David J. Lynch, senior writer with Bloomberg News in Washington, D.C., will visit Ohio Wesleyan University on Feb. 2 to discuss “The Global Financial Crisis and Its Implications for the 2012 Election.”
Lynch’s free presentation will begin at 4 p.m. in Room 312 of the R.W. Corns Building, 78 S. Sandusky St. His visit is sponsored by the Ohio Wesleyan International Studies Program.
Lynch is author of the 2010 book “When the Luck of the Irish Ran Out: The World’s Most Resilient Country and Its Struggle to Rise Again,” an account of modern Ireland’s journey from rags to riches to rags. The Boston Globe called his book a “tour de force of reportage and analysis. As much social anthropology as economic forensics, it is a cautionary tale of post-colonial success and excess.”
Prior to joining Bloomberg News, Lynch covered the global economy for USA TODAY, where he was the founding bureau chief in both London and Beijing. He covered the wars in Kosovo and Iraq, and has reported from more than 50 countries. During his nearly 30 years as a journalist, Lynch also worked as a financial writer specializing in the aerospace and defense industries for The (California) Orange County Register and as editor of Defense Week, a trade publication covering national security.
His television appearances include Fox, C-SPAN, and PBS in the United States, as well as the BBC and Sky News in London. He holds a master’s degree in international relations from Yale University and a bachelor’s degree in government from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn.
