U.S. Professor of the Year Award
Dr. Laurie Anderson is the second OWU professor to earn the prestigious Ohio Professor of the Year honor. Zoology Professor Edward H. “Jed” Burtt Jr., now retired, was named the 2011 Ohio Professor of the Year.
The U.S. Professor of the Year Awards Program is the only national one of its type that celebrates the accomplishments of undergraduate teachers and mentors. Sponsored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, which started the program in 1981, and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, the program recognizes excellence in teaching and teachers’ positive influence on the lives and careers of students.
Using stringent criteria, the program each year awards winners at the national and state level. Applications are judged by three panels based on impact on and involvement with undergraduate students, scholarly approach to teaching and learning, contributions to undergraduate education in the institution, community, and profession, and support from colleagues and former undergraduate students.
