U.S. Experiencing ‘Age of Polarization,’ Ohio Wesleyan Professor Says

DELAWARE, Ohio – Ohio Wesleyan University history professor Michael W. Flamm, Ph.D., tells the Interfaith Association of Central Ohio that the United States is experiencing an “age of polarization.”
His address is covered in the Oct. 15 edition of The (Columbus) Dispatch. In the article, journalist JoAnne Viviano writes that the nation’s polarization “has not only created an increased gap between political parties, but also manifested itself culturally, socially, religiously and economically.”
Flamm, who joined the Ohio Wesleyan faculty in 1998, is a former Fulbright Senior Scholar and Fulbright Scholarship recipient. He teaches a broad range of courses on U.S. history from 1877 to the present. He is the author or co-author of numerous articles and five books, including “Law and Order: Street Crime, Civil Unrest, and the Crisis of Liberalism in the 1960s” (2005), “Debating the 1960s: Liberal, Conservative, and Radical Perspectives” (2007), “Debating the Reagan Presidency” (2009), and “The Chicago Handbook for Teachers: A Practical Guide to the College Classroom” (2011).
