John Durst, Ph.D.
Ted Cohen, Ph.D.
In a letter published in The New York Times, Ohio Wesleyan sociology/anthropology faculty members Ted Cohen, Ph.D., and John Durst, Ph.D., describe research they conducted in the 1990s about central Ohio families with working mothers and stay-at-home fathers, a phenomenon recently covered by the Times. “Although it may be slightly more common and perhaps considerably more accepted today than then, some ideas about gender, work and family remain so deeply entrenched that departing from those conventions has meaningful personal, marital, familial and economic consequences,” the OWU faculty members state.

Andrew Wilson ’13
Andrew Wilson’s artwork is part of a four-artist exhibit titled “Incursion/Recursion” on display at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Wilson’s creations include black-and-white photography and an artist book, which he uses to depict the “unsung softness and denied potential of black men in America.”

Scott Smith joins Sheffield Haworth Inc. as its executive director, business & professional services, covering the technology function with a focus on the FinTech sector for the Americas. The OWU economics management major will work in the New York office for the global executive search, interim management, and human capital research and advisory company, which has offices in New York, Boston, Chicago, London, Dubai, Delhi, Mumbai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, and Sydney.

Mildred E. Probert ’85
Mitzi Probert discusses writing her latest children’s book, “Esther’s Miracle at the Manger,” illustrated by former Nickelodeon Animation Studios animator Ty Schafrath, who attended OWU with Probert. Her book is based on the true story of a cow, Esther, who escaped from a live Nativity scene and was found 10 days later on Christmas Eve. Probert was double major in writing and zoology.

Sean Kay, Ph.D.
Sean Kay outlines five keys to success as the United States pivots its foreign policy focus from Europe to Asia in a new War on the Rocks commentary. Kay, Ph.D., a global security expert, states: “As tensions rise between China and Japan, North Korea remains a serious concern, and progress on new trade agreements stagnates, the pivot is at risk. If Barack Obama, Congress, and the foreign policy bureaucracies cannot break through these serious internal constraints, then America’s ability to identify and implement strategy will be increasingly in doubt at one of history’s most important moments of global transition.”

Paul Janowicz joins the Cleveland office of Tucker Ellis LLP, where he represents clients in complex commercial litigation and white collar criminal matters. Janowicz received his law degree magna cum laude from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, Order of the Coif, where he was executive symposium editor for the Case Western Reserve Law Review. He received his OWU bachelor’s degree summa cum laude.
