The Leader of the Band
The Central Ohio Symphony is offering someone the opportunity to lead the orchestra at its annual Fourth of July concert. The lucky winner will conduct a John Philip Sousa march during the evening’s program.
“This is a great opportunity for someone who always thought it would be fun to stand up and lead an orchestra,” Executive Director Warren W. Hyer says.
This is the fourth year that the Symphony has raffled away a chance to direct the group during its community July 4th concert. The winner will have a rehearsal with the group, receive conducting tips from Music Director Jaime Morales-Matos, and then take the podium the night of the holiday concert.
“You don’t have to have any experience to do this,” Hyer says. “The musicians will help you out all the way through the piece.”
The concert is one of Ohio’s largest free orchestra performances with attendance regularly reaching between 5,000 and 6,000 individuals from all over Ohio. As always, it will be held on July 4th at 8 p.m. on the Phillips Glen lawn on the Ohio Wesleyan University campus.
Raffle tickets are $4 each or three for $10. They may be purchased at Not on the Corner Framing & Gallery, 27 N. Sandusky St., or by calling the Symphony office at (740) 362-1799.
