State Ethics Commission Officer to Speak at Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio – Susan Willeke, an expert on public affairs and communications, will discuss what is and isn’t allowed under Ohio ethics law when she speaks March 17 at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Willeke will present “The Ohio Ethics Law: Can I Do That?” at 7:30 p.m. March 17 in the Benes Rooms of Ohio Wesleyan’s Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware. The event also is scheduled to be streamed live online at https://www.owu.edu/about/follow-owu/stream-owu/.
Willeke’s interactive session will look at how ethics law applies to both the public and private sectors as well as examine conflicts of interest, contracts, and assistance provided by the Ohio Ethics Commission (OEC).
A summa cum laude graduate of Ursuline College, Willeke previously served as an Ohio House of Representatives legislative aide and in the communications office of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency; she assumed her current role with the OEC in 2005.
Willeke has more than 20 years of experience in public affairs, communications, and public speaking, and gives over 200 speeches a year on state ethics issues. In 2011, she was a speaker at TEDx Columbus, a conference for “Ideas Worth Sharing,” giving the talk “The Good Side of Bias.”
Willeke’s Ohio Wesleyan presentation represents the university’s 2014 Heisler Business Ethics Lecture. The annual lecture is funded by the Heisler Family Endowment for the Study of Ethics. The endowment honors university graduates James Heisler, Class of 1938; Robert Heisler, Class of 1942; and Bruce Heisler, Class of 1949.
The lecture is sponsored by the Woltemade Center for Economics, Business and Entrepreneurship.
