Scaring up Funds for Community Philanthropy

For the 26th year, the Chi Phi Haunted House will frighten visitors and raise funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters and People in Need.
“Each floor of the house will be a different theme, with surprises at every turn,” says Chi Phi President Christopher “Kit” Faiella ’11 of Miami, Florida.
“We’re hoping that everyone who attends has a fun, yet terrifying time and will support us in donating to these charities.
“Last year, we raised close to $3,000 and our 25th Haunted House was recognized in Chi Phi’s national publication,” Faiella says.
“We feel this event brings Ohio Wesleyan together with Delaware and surrounding communities. Visitors come from campus and from the local neighborhoods.”
It’s safe to bring children to the house, he says. “We adapt the level of fright to who’s coming through, and if we see a group of children in line, we’ll tone it down. We want them to have fun; we save the really scary stuff for the older groups.”
Admission to the Haunted House is $6 for adults, $3 for children, and seven food points or $5 for OWU students with a valid ID.
A donation of canned food will score you a buck off admission. Hours are 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday and 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
