Ready for Impact

Ohio Wesleyan Junior Completes Internship, Fellowship, Coursework in D.C.

Name: Tasfia Rahman '26
Hometown: Dhaka, Bangladesh
High School: Ideal School and College
Major: International Business

OWU Connection Experience: Rahman earned an Ohio Wesleyan Blaine Grimes Grant to support a 2024 internship and fellowship in Washington, D.C.

"I served as a Member Programs Team intern at the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors (NAW) in Washington, D.C., while participating as a Business + Government Relations Fellow with The Fund for American Studies (TFAS)," Rahman says.

Unmatched Experience

"I chose this OWU Connection experience because it offered an unmatched blend of academics, hands-on work, and valuable networking in Washington, D.C. Through TFAS, I not only interned with the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors (NAW) but also took an economics course at George Mason University. This course deepened my understanding of public policy and economic analysis, connecting directly to my work at NAW, where I applied these insights in strategic initiatives."

Experiences like this provide a platform for personal and professional growth, allowing students to step out of the classroom and immerse themselves in industry environments.

Platform for Growth

"The program's structured events, including the State Department and U.S. Capitol briefings, the TFAS Scholarship Dinner, and the Braver Angels Student Debate, allowed me to learn from industry and government leaders while building a network aligned with my goals. This experience was uniquely suited to my academic interests in International Business, creating an inspiring environment for personal and professional growth."

"It provided a direct application of my classroom knowledge in International Business, particularly in analyzing market trends and understanding industry dynamics."

Fulfilling a Vision

"Conducting in-depth research on wholesale distribution initiatives allowed me to apply critical-thinking and analytical skills honed in my coursework, bringing theoretical concepts to life through practical implementation. … This experience reinforced my goal of working at the intersection of business and public policy.

"By developing strategic-thinking, research, and networking skills, I gained insights into effectively supporting industries and stakeholders -- a foundation that aligns closely with my vision of creating positive social impact through business."

My Favorite Moment

"My favorite moment of the internship was attending the Alumni Congressional Briefing in the U.S. Capitol, where I had the privilege of not only meeting Congressman David Rouzer and Congressman David Kustoff, both TFAS alumni, but also of actually stepping inside the historic halls of the Capitol.

"Hearing these accomplished leaders share insights on their policy priorities and public service journeys was incredibly motivating. It was a moment that reinforced my commitment to a career in business and public policy, with the goal of making a meaningful impact."

My Campus Involvements

"My primary involvements include serving as a Resident Assistant (RA), where I support and connect students, and working with the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA) for over 2.5 years, organizing impactful events that promote inclusivity. As an event coordinator for Horizon and a committee member for Tauheed, I contribute to initiatives that celebrate diversity and enrich our campus community."

My Plans After Graduation

"After graduation, I aim to work in a field that bridges international business and social impact, possibly within the association or business development sector."
