OWU Connection Experience: Marketing Intern at MetroPlusHealth
Goldenberg interned with MetroPlusHealth, a part of the NYC Health + Hospitals network, the nation's largest public health system. During his summer experience, Goldenberg saw in action how data influences the medical field and built his resume for his future after graduation.
"During my four years at Ohio Wesleyan, the Career Connection office has been a great resource, helping me choose relevant courses and prepare for job opportunities. With guidance from my career catalysts, Mark Shipps '70 and Newton Kimberly '13, I refined my resume and cover letters and began my job search. …
"This internship has given me confidence in the skills I've developed at OWU. From crafting a strong cover letter to handling interviews, I now feel ready to put these abilities to use. It gave me firsthand experience in a real work environment at a major company in my field of interest.
"I was able to apply what I've learned in my coursework while exploring my passions. Gaining this experience before my senior year is invaluable – it has shown me what to expect in the workplace while giving me time to refine and apply these skills in my final year of studies."

Lessons Learned
During his internship, Goldenberg said he learned how to be "a successful marketer or leader."
"You need to step into your audience's shoes and fully understand their needs. This is especially important in healthcare and insurance, where many companies compete for members. The key question isn't just about cutting costs – it's about truly improving the member experience. "Another important factor is ensuring easy and cost-free access to transportation for medical appointments. These kinds of thoughtful solutions make a real difference in people's lives. …
"I saw many connections to concepts from Professor Denise Clark's Public Relations course and Professor Joan Manter's Market Research course. The biggest takeaway? Everything is data-driven. From selecting the right sample group to tracking social media reach, numbers are the best way to measure marketing success – they don't lie!"
My Favorite Moments
"Working at MetroPlusHealth was a rewarding experience because the company truly prioritizes its members. In the marketing department, our motto, "By New Yorkers, for New Yorkers," was reflected in everything we did. After winning the 2024 Social Media Campaign of the Year from AdAge and Modern Health, our team continued to push the boundaries of healthcare marketing. …
"My favorite part of the internship was the connections I made – with patients, coworkers, and everyday New Yorkers – through our creative approach. For social media campaigns, we hit the streets to capture real, unfiltered reactions and turn them into engaging one-minute videos. It was amazing to see these campaigns take off, reach more people, and make our name and mission even more recognizable."
Outside the Classroom
"I'm a member of the OWU Men's Soccer program, where I've had the privilege of learning from legendary coach Jay Martin. I serve as the student liaison for the Bishop Backers Committee. For all four years, I've been a Bishop Ambassador and tour guide for OWU's Office of Admission. …This spring semester, I've also been accepted as the Ohio Wesleyan University Advancement Spring Intern."
Why OWU?
"My path to choosing a school was anything but typical. … My senior year of high school was heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. When I started the process, I knew I wanted a liberal arts school with a smaller campus. Ohio Wesleyan turned out to be the only school that fit my interests and wasn't on the East Coast.
After connecting with my admission counselor, Dave Frohman, and visiting Ohio Wesleyan in person, I felt that OWU would be the perfect place for me. Counselor Frohman introduced me to Megan Ellis '05 and Coach Martin, and after speaking with them and learning about the opportunities OWU offers, the university quickly became my top choice."
My Plans After Graduation
"After graduation, I plan to start a job search or take on another internship to gain more experience in the field and help me pinpoint what aspects I enjoy and what I don't. This will help me focus my job search and find the right employer. I'm also open to graduate school. With the relationships I've built with OWU alumni and the support from the Career Connection office, I feel confident I'll be well-prepared to navigate the job market."
