OWU Music Professor Discusses ‘5 Musical Ways to Bond with Your Baby’ on MSN Living
DELAWARE, Ohio – Ohio Wesleyan University assistant professor of music Richard Edwards, Ph.D., tells MSN Living.com that “all babies respond to music inherently in very basic ways,” creating opportunities for new parents.
In his interview with writer Liz Murtaugh Gillespie, Edwards also encourages parents to share music with their children, even if those children no longer are babies.
“If you’ve never done anything musical with your child, it’s never too late to start,” said Edwards, whose current research focuses on the neuroscience and philosophy of music education.
Edwards joined the OWU faculty in 2009, where he specializes in secondary and elementary music education, wind band conducting, and student teaching supervision.
He also is the creator of the Musical Brain Imaging Research Database (MusicBIRD), an ongoing project containing all peer-reviewed brain-imaging studies involving human musical processes.
