OWU Alumnus Doug Gordin ’78 Receives Florida Recognition

Ohio Wesleyan alumnus Doug Gordin ’78 is being inducted into the Polk County (Florida) Sports Hall of Fame this week. Gordin, the son of former OWU Athletic Director Richard Gordin, has enjoyed a distinguished career as a golf coach at Florida Southern College, where he has coached for 17 years.
Gordin’s teams have won five NCAA Division II championships—1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2010—and produced three individual national champions. He is a four-time National Coach of the Year, and is a member of the Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame (2001) and the Florida Southern Athletics Hall of Fame (2007). He currently ranks sixth among all NCAA coaches in national championships won.
Before coming to Florida Southern, Gordin was the golf coach at Georgia Southern College in Statesboro, Georgia, for 13 years. He also served two years on the staff at the University of Alabama and one season as the head coach at Campbell University in North Carolina. In addition to playing golf for his father at OWU, he was active in Phi Delta Theta fraternity, Chaplain Student Mission Break, and the W Association.
The 12th annual Polk County All Sports Awards Banquet was held on Tuesday, June 26 at The Lakeland Center in Lakeland, Florida.
