DELAWARE, Ohio – A team of Ohio Wesleyan University students has won the 2013 “Four College Mathematics Competition” held this month in Springfield, Ohio.

The annual contest involves two- and three-person teams from Ohio Wesleyan University, Denison University, Kenyon College, and Wittenberg University working for two hours to solve a set of math problems created by an outside examiner.

“It’s been going for over 50 years,” Jeffrey Nunemacher, an Ohio Wesleyan professor of mathematics and computer science, said of the competition. “There is no particular training for the contest. Success comes from learning more mathematics, often in courses.”

Members of this year’s winning team are Ohio Wesleyan seniors Ethan Chapman of Little Falls, N.J.; Zijie Poh of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and Ian Skoch of Rocky River, Ohio.

The 2013 competition was held Feb. 9 at Wittenberg and included 11 teams.

Also representing Ohio Wesleyan in the competition were junior Cameron Burger of Great Falls, Va.; freshman Nam Tran Hoang of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; senior Nam Duy Nguyen of Hanoi, Vietnam; sophomore Da Shen of Changsha, Hunan, China; and senior Michelle Storms of Highland Lakes, N.J.
