Ohio Wesleyan University Featured in Fiske Guide to Colleges 2015

DELAWARE, Ohio – Ohio Wesleyan University is among the “best and most interesting” four-year colleges in the United States, Canada, and Great Britain, according to The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2015. The new guidebook also includes Ohio Wesleyan on its list of “small colleges and universities strong in business.”

Compiled by former New York Times education editor Edward B. Fiske, the guidebook seeks to provide prospective students and families with “the real personality” of Ohio Wesleyan. The Fiske Guide includes comments from current Ohio Wesleyan students and tackles topics including student body, academics, social life, financial aid, campus setting, housing, food, and extracurricular activities.

According to Fiske Guide editors, “OWU hallmarks include strong preparation for graduate and professional school, a solid grounding in the liberal arts, and an emphasis on having fun outside the classroom.”

The publication also touches upon the university’s OWU Connection curricular initiative, designed to provide the academic, professional, and global connections needed for lifelong success.

“The Course Connections networks allow students to study a particular topic in depth over a long period of time, selecting courses from disciplines and departments throughout the university,” editors state. “The school’s study abroad offerings are enhanced by Theory-to-Practice Grants that support students in [self-designed] projects ranging from [for example] a field dig on the Aegean coast to the study of HIV/AIDS in South Africa and Tanzania.”

Asked by The Fiske Guide to describe Ohio Wesleyan to prospective students and families, current OWU students said:

“Most Ohio Wesleyan students are super passionate. They are politically engaged and are in too many clubs.” “The courses are challenging, but nothing that a committed student can’t handle.” “The food is constantly changing and genuinely good. Students also have off-campus food points if they grow tired of on-campus options.” “Get to know the chaplain’s staff while at OWU; they are amazing people who will make your time here phenomenal.” “We are in no way a suitcase school. There’s always so much going on and there’s never enough time to do everything.”
