Ohio Wesleyan University Appoints Charles L. Stinemetz, Ph.D., as Provost

DELAWARE, OHIO – Following a nationwide search, Ohio Wesleyan University has appointed Charles L. Stinemetz, Ph.D., as provost. Stinemetz was serving as interim provost prior to this appointment.
A 1983 Ohio Wesleyan graduate who earned his master’s and doctoral degrees at The Ohio State University, Stinemetz also had been the university’s dean of academic affairs since 2006. For 16 years prior to his arrival at Ohio Wesleyan, Stinemetz was a member of the faculty and department chair at Rhodes College in Tennessee.
“Although we considered a variety of exceptional applicants from many fine institutions, we were fortunate to find the best and most qualified candidate right here at Ohio Wesleyan,” said university President Rock Jones, Ph.D. “Chuck Stinemetz brings a wealth of recent, relevant, and invaluable experience to the position of provost. He has been particularly instrumental in supporting the faculty-driven development of curricular initiatives that have created countless opportunities for our students to connect not only to the campus, but also to link theory and practice throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa. We are delighted to have him fill the position he has served so ably in an interim capacity.
“Chuck is an accomplished teacher and scholar with deep commitments to the values of liberal arts and sciences education and, in particular, to the work of the faculty,” Jones continued. “He is a skilled administrator who has demonstrated the ability to work well within our governance structure to enhance the educational experience of our students and the work of our faculty. In the search process, Chuck earned high marks from faculty as well as from staff across the university. We look forward to the leadership he will provide as our chief academic officer.”
Search committee chair Amy Downing, Ph.D., added: “I’m very pleased with the committee’s work.
