Ohio Wesleyan University Announces October Public Events
DELAWARE, OH – Ohio Wesleyan University today announced its October lineup of public events. Unless otherwise noted, all events are free of charge. For the latest OWU event information, including schedule changes, visit Events @ OWU.
Through Nov. 13 – “Sarah Rhymes with Clara,” by Susan Paulsen, OWU Class of 1980, featuring photography from her new book, and “Microscopy” by Dennison Griffith, OWU Class of 1974, featuring paintings from Griffith, president of Columbus College of Art & Design. Both exhibits will be displayed in the Richard M. Ross Art Museum, 60 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. Gallery hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The OWU alumni artists also will participate in an illustrated talk at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 30 in Room 312 of the R.W. Corns Building, 78 S. Sandusky St., and a public reception at 7 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Ross Art Museum.
Through Oct. 25 – Photographs by Ryan Spencer Reed depicting the war in Darfur, in Gallery 2001 in Beeghly Library, 43 Rowland Ave. This exhibit is part of Ohio Wesleyan’s 2011 Sagan National Colloquium. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to midnight, Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to midnight. Reed will discuss his photographs at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 in the Bayley Room in Beeghly Library as part of Ohio Wesleyan’s Sagan National Colloquium.
Through Oct. 28 – “Reflections” by Karen Poulson, Class of 1959, featuring multimedia paintings and drawings, in the Alumni Gallery in Mowry Alumni Center, 16 Rowland Ave. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Poulson will deliver an illustrated talk at 3 p.m. Sept. 29 in Room 121 of Edgar Hall, 35 S. Sandusky St.

7 p.m. Oct. 7 – OWU Volleyball against Marietta College, in Branch Rickey Arena, 105 S. Sandusky St.
8 p.m. Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28 – Evening programs at Ohio Wesleyan’s Perkins Observatory, 3199 Columbus Pike (U.S. 23), Delaware. Content varies based on sky conditions, but may include a planetarium show, observatory tours, and star gazing with the 32-inch Schottland Telescope. 7 p.m. Oct. 18 – Ohio Wesleyan’s 2011 Sagan National Colloquium presents Karin Ryan, Ph.D., director of the Human Rights Program at The Carter Center, discussing “The Dignity Revolution of 2011: Implications for U.S. Africa Policies,” in the Benes Rooms in Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave. Ryan works with former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter on a range of issues, including their efforts on behalf of victims of human rights violations. This lecture is co-sponsored with the annual Corinne Lyman Lecture on International Studies.

On Oct. 26, Busia will screen the documentary film that she and her sister, Ama Busia, made about their brother: “The Prof, A Man Remembered: The Life, Vision and Legacy of Dr. K.A. Busia.” K.A. Busia rose from humble beginnings to become prime minister of the Second Republic of Ghana. On Oct. 27, Abena Busia will discuss “Ghana in Search of Democracy: Civic Education and Democratic Governance in the Second Republic.” This presentation will be streamed live and archived at StreamOWU.
