Ohio Wesleyan University Announces November Public Events
DELAWARE, OH – Ohio Wesleyan University today announced its November 2012 lineup of public events. Unless otherwise noted, all events are free of charge. Through Dec. 20 – “Tamarind Touchstones: Fabulous at Fifty,” a celebration of excellence in fine art lithography, in the Richard M. Ross Art Museum, 60 S. Sandusky St. The museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is handicap-accessible and admission is always free. 8 p.m. Nov. 2, 3, 9, and 10; 2 p.m. Nov. 11 – “The Fairy Queen,” a musical treatment of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” on the Main Stage in Chappelear Drama Center, 45 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Enter into a magical woods where magic, music, dance, spectacle, and love swirl and materialize in this oft-told tale. Directed by D. Glen Vanderbilt Jr., musical direction by Jason Hiester, and choreography by Marin Leggat. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for senior citizens, Ohio Wesleyan employees, and non-Ohio Wesleyan students. Admission is free for Ohio Wesleyan students with a valid ID. 3 p.m. Nov. 1 – Mary Brett Whitfield, senior vice president of Columbus-based Kantar Retail, will discuss online retailing/shopping, in the Bayley Room on the second floor of Ohio Wesleyan’s Beeghly Library, 43 Rowland Ave. The event is sponsored by the university’s Woltemade Center for Economics, Business and Entrepreneurship. 7 p.m. Nov. 1 – “Bite!” – the 2012 Sagan National Colloquium – presents chef Avesta Saaty discussing Kurdish Roots: The Role of Food in Keeping Cultural Traditions Alive When a Nation Has No Country to Call Its Own,” in the Benes Rooms inside Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware. 4 p.m. Nov. 2 – “Bite!” – the 2012 Sagan National Colloquium – presents author and small-scale farmer Ben Hewitt discussing “The Future’s In the Dirt: Digging Into Regional Food Systems and Their Potential to Restore Economies, Communities, Environment, and Health,” in Phillips Auditorium inside Phillips Hall, 50 S. 8 p.m. Nov. 2, 9, 16, and 30 – Evening programs at Ohio Wesleyan’s Perkins Observatory, 3199 Columbus Pike (U.S. 23), Delaware. Content varies based on sky conditions, but may include a planetarium show, observatory tours, and star gazing with the 32-inch Schottland Telescope. 7 p.m. Nov. 7 – Film screening and discussion of “We Still Live Here,” with film writer, director, and producer Anne Makepeace, in the Benes Rooms inside Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware. “We Still Live Here” tells a remarkable story of cultural revival by the Wampanoag Native American peoples of Southeastern Massachusetts. Makepeace’s presentation is the 2012 Butler A. Jones Lecture on Race and Society.
