Ohio Wesleyan University Announces November Public Events

DELAWARE, OH – Ohio Wesleyan University today announced its November 2013 lineup of public events. Unless otherwise noted, admission is free. Through Nov. 15 – “Old Farms – New Work,” featuring sculptures of reclaimed wood by Columbus artist Melinda Rosenberg, and “Nature’s Edge,” featuring drawings and paintings by Columbus artist Rod Bouc, in the Richard M. Ross Art Museum, 60 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. The artists will discuss their work at 4:10 p.m. Nov. 6 in Room 121 of Edgar Hall, 35 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. The museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. when classes are in session. Through Jan. 6, 2014 – “Love Life,” an exhibition of poems and paintings by Fred Andrle and Karen Snouffer, in Gallery 2001 in Beeghly Library, 43 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Andrle is an associate at The Ohio State University Humanities Institute and the former host of WOSU radio’s “Open Line.” Snouffer is an associate professor of studio art at Kenyon College. When classes are in session, Gallery 2001 hours coincide with library hours, which are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday. The library will be closed for Thanksgiving break from Nov. 23 to Dec. 1 and for winter break from Dec. 20 to Jan. 14. Admission is free. 2 p.m. Nov. 3 – “The Duck Variations,” a performance and discussion of David Mamet’s one-act comedy, in the Studio Theatre in Chappelear Drama Center, 45 Rowland Ave., Delaware. When two elderly men meet in the park, their chance encounter becomes a comic battle of wits. Presented by The Ohio State University Humanities Institute in partnership with the Ohio Wesleyan Department of Theatre & Dance. Produced by A Portable Theatre, a nonprofit professional theatrical touring company based in Central Ohio. After the performance, actors Jonathan Putnam and Geoffrey Nelson will participate in a freewheeling discussion as part of “A Conversation in the Humanities.” Admission is free. Wells Johnson Professor of Mathematics at Bowdoin College, discussing mathematical modeling of climate, in the Benes Rooms inside Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware. She is co-director of the Math Climate Research Network, an organization of researchers seeking to establish a new area of applied mathematics tailored to climate research. Schimel was convening lead author for the Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with former Vice President Al Gore. He and his OSU team have developed drilling equipment to acquire histories from ice fields, helping to advance the understanding of the Earth’s climate system.
