Ohio Wesleyan University Announces March Public Events

DELAWARE, OH – Ohio Wesleyan University today announced its March 2014 lineup of public events. Unless otherwise noted, admission is free. Through March 30 – “New Art / New Mexico,” featuring 26 artists from northern New Mexico selected by Ohio Wesleyan students who visited the artists in their homes and studios as part of a university-funded Theory-to-Practice Grant experience in summer 2013. The exhibit, designed and mounted by OWU students in OWU’s gallery management class, is displayed in the Richard M. Ross Art Museum, 60 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. The museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is handicap-accessible and admission is always free. 8 p.m. March 1 and 2 p.m. March 2 – “Almost Maine,” a play by John Cariani, a whimsical, romantic comedy following the hopes, successes, regrets, and despair of nine couples on a magical mid-winter evening in the northern reaches of Maine. This play, directed by Ed Kahn, will be held in the Studio Theatre inside Chappelear Drama Center, 45 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for senior citizens, Ohio Wesleyan employees, and non-Ohio Wesleyan students. Admission is free for Ohio Wesleyan students with a valid OWU ID. March 2 through April 2 – All Student Juried Spring Show, in Gallery 2001 inside Beeghly Library, 43 Rowland Ave., Delaware. This annual show is open to students from any major. Gallery 2001 hours coincide with library hours, which are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday. 7 p.m. March 31 – U.S. Congressman John Lewis, D-Georgia, the last surviving member of the Big Six leaders of the Civil Rights Movement, discusses his lifetime of experiences, in Gray Chapel inside University Hall, 61 S. Lewis, called “one of the most courageous persons the Civil Rights Movement ever produced,” will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree, Ohio Wesleyan’s highest recognition.
