Ohio Wesleyan University Announces February Public Events

DELAWARE, OH – Ohio Wesleyan University today announced its February 2013 lineup of public events. Unless otherwise noted, admission is free. For the latest OWU event information, including schedule updates, visit Events @ OWU. For Battling Bishop athletics schedules, visit BattlingBishops.com.

Through Feb. 17 – Sculpture by Barry Gunderson, featuring painted wood and welded and painted aluminum creations, in the Richard M. Ross Art Museum, 60 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. The museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is handicap-accessible and admission is always free. Through Feb. 28 – Paintings by Columbus-based artist “Andy!,” in Gallery 2001 in Beeghly Library, 43 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Gallery hours coincide with library hours.

6:30 p.m. Feb. 1 – OWU Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving vs. Kenyon, at Meek Aquatics and Recreation Center, 150 S. Henry St., Delaware.

8 p.m. Feb. 1, 8, 15, and 22 – Evening programs at Ohio Wesleyan’s Perkins Observatory, 3199 Columbus Pike (U.S. 23), Delaware. Content varies based on sky conditions, but may include a planetarium show, observatory tours, and star gazing with the 32-inch Schottland Telescope. 4 p.m. Feb. 7 – New York Times correspondents Thom Shanker and Eric Schmitt will discuss their new book, “Counterstrike: The Untold Story of America’s Secret Campaign Against Al Qaeda,” in Benes Room C in Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Shanker, a Pentagon correspondent, routinely spends time embedded with troops in Iraq and Afghanistan; Schmitt, a Pulitzer Prize-winning terrorism correspondent, has embedded with troops in Iraq, Somalia, and Pakistan. Their presentation is sponsored by the Ohio Wesleyan International Studies Program and Department of Politics and Government.

8 p.m. Feb. 8, 9, 15, and 16; 2 p.m. Feb. 17 – The OWU Department of Theatre & Dance presents “The Passion of Dracula” by Bob Hall and David Richmond (adapted from the Bram Stoker novel), on the Main Stage of Chappelear Drama Center, 45 Rowland Ave., Delaware. This version of the classic legend is filled with suspense, romance, special effects, and humor. Directed by Elane Denny-Todd. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for senior citizens, Ohio Wesleyan employees, and non-Ohio Wesleyan students. Admission is free for Ohio Wesleyan students with a valid ID. 8 p.m. Feb. 22 – Classical and Latin guitarist David Burgess performs as part of the Ohio Wesleyan Performing Arts Series, in Jemison Auditorium inside Sanborn Hall, 23 Elizabeth St., Delaware. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $5 for senior citizens and non-Ohio Wesleyan students with a valid school ID. Tickets are free for Ohio Wesleyan students and employees with a valid OWU ID.
