Ohio Wesleyan University Announces December 2014 Public Events

DELAWARE, OH – Ohio Wesleyan University today announced its December 2014 lineup of public events. Unless otherwise noted, admission is free. Now through Dec. 18 –Three, one-person exhibits by central Ohio artists Elizabeth Fergus-Jean, Izze Frances, and John Fergus-Jean, at the Richard M. Ross Art Museum, 60 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. “Dreamscape” by Elizabeth Fergus-Jean features 100 paperclay boats suspended in tree branches and hanging from the ceiling of the museum’s main gallery; “Awe” by Izze Frances (Elizabeth Fergus-Jean’s alter-ego) features photographs that capture the neither-this-nor-that realm of the “betwixt and between”; and “Penumbrae” by John Fergus-Jean features reimagined daguerreotype portraits that meld past and present. During the academic year, the museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. It will be closed Nov. 23 through Nov. 30 during the university’s Thanksgiving break. Now through Dec. 18 – Water-themed photography in two Ohio Wesleyan galleries: “Waterscapes” by Rick Buchanan, a Columbus, Ohio-based commercial and fine arts photographer; and “Waterworks” by OWU graduate Dwight Hiscano, Class of 1985. The water theme is in conjunction with Ohio Wesleyan’s 2014 Sagan National Colloquium, “H2OWU: Water in Our World.” Buchanan’s work is on display in Gallery 2001 inside OWU’s Beeghly Library, 43 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Hiscano’s work is on display in the nearby Alumni Gallery inside OWU’s Mowry Alumni Center, 16 Rowland Ave., Delaware. The Alumni Gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, but will be closed Nov. 23 through Nov. 30 during the university’s Thanksgiving break. 5 p.m. Dec. 1 – Lighting of the Hudler Memorial Christmas Tree, an OWU tradition since 2008, on the lawn near the South Sandusky Street-Park Avenue intersection, just north of the Edwards Gym parking lot. The free, community event will include remarks from President Rock Jones and Chaplain Jon Powers; a musical performance by OWU’s female a cappella group, Pitch Black; and a bonfire, cookies, and hot chocolate.
