Ohio Wesleyan University Announces August, September Public Events

DELAWARE, OH – Ohio Wesleyan University today announced its August and September 2013 lineup of public events. Unless otherwise noted, admission is free. Through Sept.17 – “Homecoming,” featuring etching and drypoint prints by Ohio Wesleyan graduate Sherry Smith Bell, Class of 1963, in the Alumni Gallery in Mowry Alumni Center, 16 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

Through Sept. 22 – “The Boys of Summer,” featuring large-scale Polaroid prints of miniature baseball figurines by New York-based photographer David Levinthal, M.F.A., in Gallery 2001 inside Beeghly Library, 43 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Gallery hours coincide with library hours.

Aug. 22 through Oct. 6 – “A Portrait of Ice,” featuring images of glaciers by New York-based photographer Caleb Cain Marcus, and an exhibition of paintings and drawings by Athens, Ohio-based artist John Sabraw, in the Richard M. Ross Art Museum, 60 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. The Marcus exhibition is part of Ohio Wesleyan’s 2013 Sagan National Colloquium focusing on climate change. Marcus is scheduled to speak on campus at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 as part of the colloquium. The Ross Art Museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is handicap-accessible and admission is always free. Each year, OWU’s colloquium takes an in-depth look at an issue of global importance. The 2013 lecture series focuses on “Interdisciplinary Impacts of Climate Change.” The event is scheduled to be streamed live at StreamOWU. 4 p.m. Sept. 21 – EarthDance Delaware, part of the international EarthDance celebration to promote peace, justice, and sustainability, in the Benes Rooms inside Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware. The event will feature Bellydance Columbus; Israeli Folk Dance; Laughter Yoga; Swing, Ballroom, and other dance styles; OWU dance majors; and DJ Darby.
