Ohio Wesleyan University Announces August, September Public Events

DELAWARE, OH – Ohio Wesleyan University today announced its August and September 2014 lineup of public events. Unless otherwise noted, admission is free. 8 p.m. Aug. 15, 22, and 29 – Evening programs at Ohio Wesleyan’s Perkins Observatory, 3199 Columbus Pike (U.S. 23), Delaware. Aug. 21 through Sept. 21 – “Tightrope: The Line Between Art and Design,” featuring furniture, drawings, plans, and sculpture by Ohio Wesleyan graduate Jim Zivic, Class of 1983, and paintings by OWU graduate Chris Kahler, OWU Class of 1991, in Richard M. Ross Art Museum, 60 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. Zivic creates industrial-luxe furniture and flooring using steel, leather, coal, and aluminum. Aug. 25 through Oct. 6 – “Resonance” by John Sabraw, featuring artworks made with paints created using pollution-based pigments collected from water surrounding now-closed coal mines in southern Ohio, in Gallery 2001 is located inside Beeghly Library, 43 Rowland Ave., Delaware. 8 p.m. Sept. 20 – The Senegal St. Joseph Gospel Choir – a symbol of peace, hope, humanity, and brotherhood throughout West Africa – performs traditional Senegalese music, percussion, and dance, in Gray Chapel inside University Hall, 61. As part of the choir’s first North American tour, its 15 singers and four drummers will perform unique interpretations of gospel spirituals, traditional African tunes, Catholic liturgy, and indigenous Muslim songs to reflect the harmony among the major cultures of Senegal. The man does not speak Spanish but has a tattoo with an address on his arm. Roberto becomes involved with a fruitless search for the man’s uncle and learns his dramatic story along the way. Sept. 30 through Nov. 2 – “The Wonder of it All,” an exhibition of photography by Ohio Wesleyan graduate Clark Winter, Class of 1973, and “Textiles,” an exhibition of woven baskets by Pamela Becker, OWU Class of 1964, in the Richard M.
