Ohio Wesleyan University Announces April Public Events

DELAWARE, OH – Ohio Wesleyan University today announced its April lineup of public events. Unless otherwise noted, all events are free of charge. For the latest OWU event information, including schedule updates, visit Events @ OWU.

8 p.m. March 30-31 and 2 p.m. April 1 – Spring 2012 Opera Production, directed by Jason Hiester, in Jemison Auditorium in Sanborn Hall, 23 Elizabeth St. Tickets are $10 for general admission; $5 for senior citizens and children under 10; and free for OWU students and employees. Through April 1 – Ceramic wall hangings by Carolyn Dulin, OWU Class of 1954; paintings by Randall Tiedman; and “Pride of the Ross,” featuring pieces from OWU’s permanent art collection including works by Pablo Picasso and M.C. Escher, in the Richard M. Ross Art Museum, 60 S. Sandusky St. The museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is handicap-accessible and admission is always free. Through April 4 – “All-Student Spring Show,” featuring artworks by Ohio Wesleyan students, in Gallery 2001 in Beeghly Library, 43 Rowland Ave. Gallery hours coincide with library hours.

Through April 25 – “A Journey Through the Camera Lens,” featuring photographs by Mohsen Shirzadian, OWU Class of 1983, in the Alumni Gallery in Mowry Alumni Center, 16 Rowland Ave. The Alumni Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

April 3, 4 – The OWU English Department and Strand Theatre present the Community Film Series screening of “True Grit,” a 2010 Coen Brothers film featuring Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and Hailee Steinfeld. At 9:15 p.m. April 3 and 7 p.m. April 4 at the Strand, 28 E. Winter St. Tickets are $6.

7 p.m. April 4 – Film producer Eren McGinnis screens and discusses the documentary “Precious Knowledge,” which examines Tucson’s Mexican-American ethnic studies program and the controversy surrounding its elimination,” in the Benes Rooms of Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave.

3:15 p.m. April 5 – OWU Music Department student concert featuring Samantha Rammaha, soprano, and Josh Decker, trumpet, in Jemison Auditorium in Sanborn Hall, 23 Elizabeth St.

4 p.m. April 5 – OWU Women’s Tennis versus Wittenberg University, at Luttinger Family Tennis Center, 31 Hayes St.

4:10 p.m. April 5 – Marisa Eisenberg, postdoctoral fellow at The Ohio State University’s Mathematical Biosciences Institute, discusses “Mathematical Modeling and Human Disease,” in Room 163 in the Schimmel/Conrades Science Center, 90 S. Henry St. Sponsored by the OWU Science Lecture Series.

Noon April 6 – OWU Men’s Baseball versus DePauw University in a doubleheader, at Littick Field, 199 S. Henry St.

7 p.m. April 6 – OWU Men’s Lacrosse versus The College of Wooster, at Selby Stadium 45 S. Henry St. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for students. This event will be streamed live at StreamOWU.

8 p.m. April 6, 13, 20, and 27 – Evening programs at Ohio Wesleyan’s Perkins Observatory, 3199 Columbus Pike (U.S. 23), Delaware. Content varies based on sky conditions, but may include a planetarium show, observatory tours, and star gazing with the 32-inch Schottland Telescope. April 7 – OWU Men’s and Women’s Track & Field hosts the Marv Frye Invitational meet at Selby Stadium, 45 S. Henry St. General admission is $5 per person, with children under 5 admitted free.

4 p.m. April 10 – Peter Mansoor of The Ohio State University’s Mershon Center discusses “The Iraq War: Opportunities Lost, Lessons Learned, and the Way Ahead,” in Room 312 of the R.W. Corns Building, 78 S. Sandusky St. Sponsored by the OWU International Studies Program.

8 p.m. April 10 – OWU Music Department faculty recital featuring Marilyn Nims, mezzo soprano, and Robert Nims, piano, in Jemison Auditorium in Sanborn Hall, 23 Elizabeth St.

April 10, 11 – The OWU English Department and Strand Theatre present the Community Film Series screening of “No One Knows About Persian Cats,” a tale of anti-authoritarianism set in present-day Tehran. At 9:15 p.m. April 10 and 7 p.m. April 11 at the Strand, 28 E. Winter St. Tickets are $6.

7:30 p.m. April 11 – Ezra Vogel, retired Harvard University professor and 1950 OWU alumnus, discusses his acclaimed book, “Deng Xiaoping and the Transformation of China,” in the Benes Rooms of Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave. Vogel also will sign copies of his book from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. April 11 at the OWU Bookstore, located on the lower level of the campus center. Sponsored by the Woltemade Center for Economics, Business and Entrepreneurship and by the East Asian Studies Program.

7:30 p.m. April 12 – Celebrate the legacy of 1920 OWU graduate the Rev. Dr. Norman Vincent Peale with Peale collaborator and best-selling “One Minute Manager” author Ken Blanchard and members of the Peale family. 8 p.m. April 13, 14, 20, 21, and 2 p.m. April 22 – OWU Theatre & Dance Department presents “Ring Around the Moon,” a witty, whimsical comedy about mistaken identities and misguided love, on the Main Stage in Chappelear Drama Center, 45 Rowland Ave. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for non-OWU students, senior citizens, and OWU faculty and staff. April 14 through May 13 – The 2012 Ohio Wesleyan Senior Fine Arts Majors Exhibit, in the Richard M. Ross Art Museum, 60 S. Sandusky St. The exhibit will open with a special Saturday reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 14. On May 13 (graduation day), the exhibit will be open until noon. The museum’s regular hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is handicap-accessible and admission is always free. April 17, 18 – The OWU English Department and Strand Theatre present the Community Film Series screening of “In a Better World,” which chronicles connected stories in Denmark and Sudan. At 9:15 p.m. April 17 and 7 p.m. April 18 at the Strand, 28 E. Winter St. Tickets are $6.

7:30 p.m. April 18 – Internationally recognized Princeton University biologists Peter and Rosemary Grant will receive honorary OWU degrees and discuss “How and Why Species Multiply: Evolution of Darwin’s Finches,” in Benes Room B inside Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave. The couple’s work has been called “the most important contribution since Darwin toward making evolutionary biology a science in which proof is possible.” Their presentation, part of the Clark Ornithology Lecture Series, is sponsored by the OWU Department of Zoology.
