Ohio Wesleyan University Announces April Public Events

8 p.m. March 30-31 and 2 p.m. April 1 – Spring 2012 Opera Production, directed by Jason Hiester, in Jemison Auditorium in Sanborn Hall, 23 Elizabeth St. Tickets are $10 for general admission; $5 for senior citizens and children under 10; and free for OWU students and employees. Through April 1 – Ceramic wall hangings by Carolyn Dulin, OWU Class of 1954; paintings by Randall Tiedman; and “Pride of the Ross,” featuring pieces from OWU’s permanent art collection including works by Pablo Picasso and M.C. Escher, in the Richard M. Ross Art Museum, 60 S. Sandusky St. The museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is handicap-accessible and admission is always free. Through April 4 – “All-Student Spring Show,” featuring artworks by Ohio Wesleyan students, in Gallery 2001 in Beeghly Library, 43 Rowland Ave. Gallery hours coincide with library hours.
Through April 25 – “A Journey Through the Camera Lens,” featuring photographs by Mohsen Shirzadian, OWU Class of 1983, in the Alumni Gallery in Mowry Alumni Center, 16 Rowland Ave. The Alumni Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
April 3, 4 – The OWU English Department and Strand Theatre present the Community Film Series screening of “True Grit,” a 2010 Coen Brothers film featuring Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and Hailee Steinfeld. At 9:15 p.m. April 3 and 7 p.m. April 4 at the Strand, 28 E. Winter St. Tickets are $6.
7 p.m. April 4 – Film producer Eren McGinnis screens and discusses the documentary “Precious Knowledge,” which examines Tucson’s Mexican-American ethnic studies program and the controversy surrounding its elimination,” in the Benes Rooms of Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave.

Content varies based on sky conditions, but may include a planetarium show, observatory tours, and star gazing with the 32-inch Schottland Telescope. Dr. Norman Vincent Peale with Peale collaborator and best-selling “One Minute Manager” author Ken Blanchard and members of the Peale family. April 14 through May 13 – The 2012 Ohio Wesleyan Senior Fine Arts Majors Exhibit, in the Richard M. Ross Art Museum, 60 S. Sandusky St. The exhibit will open with a special Saturday reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 14. On May 13 (graduation day), the exhibit will be open until noon. The museum’s regular hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is handicap-accessible and admission is always free. 7:30 p.m. April 18 – Internationally recognized Princeton University biologists Peter and Rosemary Grant will receive honorary OWU degrees and discuss “How and Why Species Multiply: Evolution of Darwin’s Finches,” in Benes Room B inside Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave. The couple’s work has been called “the most important contribution since Darwin toward making evolutionary biology a science in which proof is possible.” Their presentation, part of the Clark Ornithology Lecture Series, is sponsored by the OWU Department of Zoology.
