Ohio Wesleyan to Screen Men’s Soccer Tournament Games
DELAWARE, OH – Fans of the Ohio Wesleyan University men’s soccer team are invited to campus Friday, Dec. 2, to watch live coverage of the Battling Bishops as they participate in the semifinals of the NCAA Division III national tournament in San Antonio, Texas.
The Bishops will battle the Red Hawks of Montclair (N.J.) State University in a semifinal contest that kicks off at 6:30 p.m. EST at San Antonio’s Blossom Soccer Stadium. Ohio Wesleyan will screen the game inside Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave. Admission is free, and refreshments will be available.
After the Bishops play, the Calvin College (Mich.) Knights will face the Red Dragons of Oneonta (N.Y.) State University in the evening’s second semifinal matchup. The winners of the semifinal games will meet in the national championship game at 6:30 p.m. EST Saturday, Dec. 3. If the Bishops make the finals, Ohio Wesleyan also will screen the championship game in Hamilton-Williams Campus Center. Admission will be free.
As the Bishops strive for their second national championship, Ohio Wesleyan head coach Jay Martin also is on the verge of making history. Martin is the winningest active coach in men’s college soccer, and his 606 career victories rank him second all-time behind Joe Bean, who compiled 607 wins at Quinnipiac, Bridgeport, and Wheaton (Ill.) from 1962-2006. Ohio Wesleyan victories in the semifinal and national championship games would make Martin the all-time wins leader in men’s college soccer in all divisions.
Ohio Wesleyan is making its NCAA-record 34th Division III playoff appearance and its 32nd NCAA Division III playoff appearance in 34 years. Ohio Wesleyan won the 1998 national championship and finished as runner-up in 1990 and 1992. This is Ohio Wesleyan’s ninth appearance in the NCAA Division III semifinals.
