Ohio Wesleyan to Host Medical Science Talk April 24
DELAWARE, Ohio – Ohio Wesleyan University graduate David Paul, D.M.D., an associate professor at the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, has participated in more than 20 dental/medical mission trips into some of the world’s poorest and most underserved countries to help provide health care.
Paul, OWU Class of 1985, most recently helped to build a mobile dental clinic in the Dominican Republic to serve residents living in the rural San Felipi area. He will discuss his experiences at 7:30 p.m. April 24 when he presents “International Public Service in Dentistry: Lessons from the Field.” Paul will speak in Room 312 of the R.W. Corns Building, 78 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. The event is free and open to the public.
After graduating from Ohio Wesleyan, Paul received his Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree from Massachusetts-based Tufts in 1989. He serves on the board of directors for HelpMercy International and is a member of Operation Smile, Health Teams International, and Cape Cares. He also holds memberships in the American Dental Association, Massachusetts Dental Society, and American Association of Dental Education.
His presentation at Ohio Wesleyan is part of the university’s Dr. Ellen S. Dickinson Medical Science Symposium and is co-sponsored by the OWU Science Lecture Series. The Dickinson Symposium was established to honor Dickinson, who died in 2003, and to bring outstanding doctors, dentists, and researchers to the campus for the benefit of the OWU and central Ohio communities.
Dickinson, Class of 1963, majored in chemistry at Ohio Wesleyan and then earned her medical degree at Indiana University. She later taught in the areas of neurology and psychiatry at the University of Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She also worked at the Erie County, Pa., Medical Center.
