Ohio Wesleyan to Host Double/Take Dance Performance

DELAWARE, Ohio – Ohio Wesleyan University’s 2012-2013 Performing Arts Series will continue Dec. 1 with DOUBLE/TAKE, an evening-length dance performance featuring music commissioned from a range of internationally recognized artists.
The DOUBLE/TAKE performance will begin at 8 p.m. Dec. 1 on the Main Stage in Chappelear Drama Center, 45 Rowland Ave., Delaware, on the Ohio Wesleyan campus. The evening showcases Meghan Durham and Karl Rogers – local dance artists who maintain strong ties with the larger dance community.
DOUBLE/TAKE is an ongoing creative endeavor between Durham, based in Columbus, Ohio, and Rogers, based in Rochester, N.Y. The current performance features three commissioned duets – one each by Stephen Koester, Mariko Yamada, and Lisa Race. Two solo works, one choreographed and performed each by Durham and Rogers, completes the evening. The performance also includes original music by composer Michael Wall.
Tickets for this and each Performing Arts Series event are $20 for general admission and $5 for senior citizens and non-Ohio Wesleyan students (with a valid school ID). Ohio Wesleyan’s 2012-2013 Performing Arts Series will conclude in February when classical and Latin guitarist David Burgess performs at 8 p.m. Feb. 22 in Jemison Auditorium inside Sanborn Hall, 23 Elizabeth St., Delaware.
Praised by musicians and critics worldwide, Burgess is recognized as one of today’s outstanding guitarists. His international appearances as a soloist and chamber musician have taken him to concert halls throughout North and South America, Europe, and the Far East. First prize winner in the Andrés Segovia Fellowship Competition in New York City, he also has earned top honors in the Ponce International Competition in Mexico City and the 31st International Music Competition in Munich. The Greenwich (Conn.) Time newspaper described one of his live performances as “hauntingly beautiful, tastefully phrased with exquisite nuance and yet with an aristocratic understatement that held his audience spellbound.”
