Ohio Wesleyan to Host Classics Presentation April 10
Christina Maria Hoenig, Ph.D., to Present ‘Union and Disunion in Lucretius’
DELAWARE, Ohio – Christina Maria Hoenig, Ph.D., assistant professor of classics at the University of Pittsburgh, will present “Union and Disunion in Lucretius” April 10 at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Hoenig will speak at 4 p.m. in Room 330 of OWU’s Slocum Hall, 75 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. Her presentation is free and open to the public.
She will discuss the writings of Titus Lucretius Carus, a Roman poet and philosopher who penned “De Rerum Natura (On the Nature of the Universe).” His six-book epic offers a naturalistic explanation of the physical origin, structure, and destiny of the universe, and his ideas helped to lay the foundation and provide background for the development of western science.
Hoenig, who holds a doctorate in classics from the University of Cambridge, specializes in the Greek and Roman philosophical writers of the late first century B.C. and the Latin Platonic tradition.
Her presentation is sponsored by the OWU Classics Program. For more information, contact Lee Fratantuono, Ph.D., director of classics, at lmfratan@owu.edu.
