Ohio Wesleyan to Celebrate Community Day at Sept. 7 Football Game

DELAWARE, Ohio – Ohio Wesleyan University’s Battling Bishop football team will kick off its 2013 season with a Sept. 7 home opener against the Bluffton University Beavers. The Bishops shared the 2012 North Coast Athletic Conference championship and are ranked No. 3 in this year’s NCAC preseason poll. Ohio Wesleyan also is ranked No. 18 in the NCAA Division III preseason poll featured in The Sporting News’ annual college football yearbook.
The OWU-Bluffton game will begin at 6 p.m. Sept. 7 at Ohio Wesleyan’s Selby Stadium, 45 S. Henry St., Delaware. The OWU cheerleaders will be on hand to support the Battling Bishops and toss free T-shirts into the Community Day crowd. The Pep Band also will help to keep the team motivated and the crowd entertained. For anyone wishing to tailgate in advance of this or any Battling Bishop game, please remember that alcohol is not permitted at university athletic competitions.
Tickets for this year’s Community Day gridiron game will cost $3 for all guests without a valid OWU ID. (Admission is free for anyone under age 5 and for OWU students and employees.)
When the Bishops take to the field, they will be led for the second season by head football coach Tom Watts, who was named a Regional Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association after his successful first season. Watts was named the Region 2 Coach of the Year in NCAA Division III. He guided the Bishops to a 9-1 record in 2012, claiming Ohio Wesleyan’s first conference championship since 1989.
Additional 2013 home football games for the Battling Bishops are as follows:
7 p.m. Sept. 28 – OWU vs. Denison University. 2 p.m. Oct. 5 – OWU vs. Allegheny College. 1 p.m. Oct. 19 – OWU vs. DePauw University. 1 p.m. Nov. 9 – OWU Football vs. Oberlin College.
Guest admission for these games will be $8 for adults, $3 for non-OWU students, and free for anyone under age 5 or with an Ohio Wesleyan ID. These games also will be streamed live at https://www.owu.edu/about/follow-owu/stream-owu/.
