DELAWARE, Ohio – Ohio Wesleyan University’s Battling Bishop football team will kick off its 2013 season with a Sept. 7 home opener against the Bluffton University Beavers. The Bishops shared the 2012 North Coast Athletic Conference championship and are ranked No. 3 in this year’s NCAC preseason poll. Ohio Wesleyan also is ranked No. 18 in the NCAA Division III preseason poll featured in The Sporting News’ annual college football yearbook.

The OWU-Bluffton game will begin at 6 p.m. Sept. 7 at Ohio Wesleyan’s Selby Stadium, 45 S. Henry St., Delaware. The OWU cheerleaders will be on hand to support the Battling Bishops and toss free T-shirts into the Community Day crowd. Tickets for this year’s Community Day gridiron game will cost $3 for all guests without a valid OWU ID. (Admission is free for anyone under age 5 and for OWU students and employees.)

When the Bishops take to the field, they will be led for the second season by head football coach Tom Watts, who was named a Regional Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association after his successful first season. Watts was named the Region 2 Coach of the Year in NCAA Division III. He guided the Bishops to a 9-1 record in 2012, claiming Ohio Wesleyan’s first conference championship since 1989.
