Ohio Wesleyan Professor to Participate in ‘Iron Composer’ (UPDATE)

DELAWARE, Ohio — Ohio Wesleyan University assistant professor of music Jennifer Jolley will participate Sept. 6 in an “Iron Composer” competition in Northeast Ohio.
Additional participants include musicians coming from as far away as Turkey and Poland.
“In the spirit of the Food Network’s Iron Chefs, composers will vie to write and orchestrate music under deadline,” reports Grant Segall of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
“Maybe they should call this showdown Iron Clefs,” Segall writes.
Jolley and her competitors will have five hours to create and score music. The results will be played at 8 p.m. in a free public concert at Baldwin Wallace University and on radio station WCLV-FM 104.9.
Jolley joined the OWU faculty in 2012. She earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She also is the co-founder of the North American New Opera Workshop (NANOWorks), a chamber opera company devoted to developing and staging short contemporary operas by emerging North American composers.
