DELAWARE, Ohio – Tammy Wallace, assistant director of Ohio Wesleyan University’s Richard M. Ross Art Museum, has a new title these days – Board of Trustees member for the Ohio Museums Association.

Wallace, a 2002 Ohio Wesleyan graduate, has been working at the Ross Art Museum, 60 S. Sandusky St., Delaware, since it opened 12 years ago. She was elected to the Ohio Museums Association (OMA) board this spring and is the only representative of a university-affiliated art museum among the board’s 21 current members.

“The biggest thing that OMA does is a yearly conference that has many, many workshops for museum professionals and allows them to network (and) gives them the tools to make their museums and zoos and aquariums and historical homes all over the state better,” said Wallace, who is eligible to serve up to three consecutive two-year terms.

Other board members represent the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center, Ohio Historical Society, Center of Science and Industry (COSI), Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Pro Football Hall of Fame, and other entities. The OMA is considered the leading advocate for museums in the state.

The board meets five times a year – twice via conference call, once at its annual conference in March, and twice in Columbus.

Wallace first met OMA representatives at the Midwest Museum Association Conference in Indianapolis in 2012 and immediately thought the Ross Art Museum should join the Columbus-based organization.

“I thought, that’s right here; we ought to become members,” she said.

At the Ross Art Museum, Wallace has a wide range of responsibilities that include helping to install exhibits, manage finances and security, and curate exhibitions from time to time. She joined the Ohio Wesleyan museum as first assistant and was promoted to assistant director 18 months ago.
