DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan Department of Theatre & Dance will present five performances of George Bernard Shaw’s “Heartbreak House,” a comic masterpiece that revolves around the eccentric Captain Shotover and his family at his country estate built in the shape of a ship.

“This Shaw masterpiece remains one of his most famous plays and is still timely today as it compels us to examine our lives and the way that we live them,” said director Elane Denny-Todd, an Ohio Wesleyan professor of theatre since 1992. “Many suggest that Shaw’s message for the play is ‘we are not dead yet, merely asleep – can we awaken before it is too late?’ ”

The cast and crew include more than 40 Ohio Wesleyan students with scenic design by theatre professor D. Glen Vanderbilt Jr., lighting design by Chad Knutson, costume design by Jacqueline Shelley, and stage management by sophomore Maeve Nash of Springfield, Va.

Ohio Wesleyan’s performances of “Heartbreak House” will be held at 8 p.m. April 4, 5, 11, and 12, and at 2 p.m. April 13 on the Main Stage of Chappelear Drama Center, 45 Rowland Ave., Delaware, on the Ohio Wesleyan campus. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for Ohio Wesleyan employees, non-OWU students, and senior citizens. Admission is free for Ohio Wesleyan students with a valid ID.

To reserve tickets, call the Department of Theatre & Dance at (740) 368-3855 from 9 a.m. to noon or 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information about the department, visit https://www.owu.edu/academics/departments-programs/department-of-theatre-dance/.
