Ohio Wesleyan Band Festival to Showcase Top High School Musicians
DELAWARE, OHIO – The community is invited to hear more than 80 talented high school musicians perform during a free concert at 7 p.m. Jan. 21 on the Ohio Wesleyan University campus.
Before their evening performance, the students will participate in the daylong OWU President’s High School Band Festival, which provides learning and scholarship opportunities for high school musicians from Ohio and surrounding states. All students had to audition and be selected by a panel of OWU faculty to participate in the one-day music workshop and concert.
Ohio Wesleyan’s 48th annual High School Band Festival will include an honors band, festival band, and composition seminar. Composition students will use computer notation software to create an original work to debut during the community concert.
Ohio Wesleyan’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Park Avenue Jazz Ensemble also will perform at the concert, which will be held in Gray Chapel inside University Hall, 61 S. Sandusky St. The performance also will be streamed live on the Internet at https://www.owu.edu/about/follow-owu/stream-owu/.
The high school student band will be led by Ohio Wesleyan music professor Larry Griffin, D.M.A. Assistant music professor Clint Needham, D.M., will work with the composition students.
