April 24 through Oct. 4 – “Storied Grounds,” an exhibition of photography by Lesley Louden, OWU Class of 1999, in the Alumni Gallery in Mowry Alumni Center, 16 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Louden, a 1995 graduate of Delaware City Schools’ Rutherford B. Hayes High School, will be on campus April 24 for the opening, when she will present an illustrated artist talk at 7:30 p.m. in Room 312 of the R.W. Corns Building, 78 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. Now through May 10 – “Ongoing,” an exhibition of mixed media creations by OWU’s Class of 2015 fine arts majors, at the Richard M. Ross Art Museum, 60 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. During the academic year, the museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is handicap-accessible and admission is always free. All day May 1 & 2 – OWU Men’s and Women’s Track & Field host the NCAC championship, at George Gauthier Track, 45 S. Henry St., Delaware. One-day admission tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children 18 and under, and free for NCAC students with a valid NCAC institution ID. An all-session adult pass is $10. 7 p.m. May 1 – The 11th Annual OWU Documentary Film Festival, featuring seven short films created by Ohio Wesleyan students enrolled in the university’s Ethnographic and Documentary Film and Filmmaking Class. The film festival will be held at the Strand Theatre, 28 E. Winter St., Delaware. Brief discussions with the student-filmmakers will be held after each screening. Admission is free. Some of the films contain adult language and content intended for mature audiences. This event is sponsored by the OWU Department of Sociology/Anthropology and the Office of Media Services.
7:30 p.m. May 2 – The Central Ohio Symphony performs the U.S. premiere of “The Great Animal Orchestra,” inspired by Bernie Krause, a musician, acoustician, and sound environmentalist who uses sound to document human activity on the environment. The concert, led by conductor Jaime Morales-Matos, is part of Ohio Wesleyan’s 2014-2015 Performing Arts Series. It will be held in Gray Chapel inside University Hall, 61 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. Reserved-seat tickets are $25 and $20 for senior citizens. Tickets are $6 for non-Ohio Wesleyan students. 1 p.m. May 10 – Ohio Wesleyan’s 171st commencement ceremony, featuring remarks from keynote speaker Wil Haygood, a Washington Post reporter whose article “A Butler Well Served By This Election” profiled the life and career of White House butler Eugene Allen. This article was developed into the 2013 film “The Butler” which dramatizes Allen’s White House work during the civil rights movement. Haygood served as the film’s associate producer and wrote the accompanying book. Commencement will be held in Phillips Glen outside Merrick Hall, 65 S. Sandusky St., Delaware.
