Ohio Wesleyan and Columbus State Sign Articulation Agreement

DELAWARE, OHIO – Ohio Wesleyan University and Columbus State Community College signed an articulation agreement May 22 that guarantees Ohio Wesleyan admission to any Columbus State student who has earned an associate degree, as long as the student has achieved a grade point average of at least 3.0 and is in good academic standing with no disciplinary violations.
The agreement was signed during a dinner at Ohio Wesleyan that included the presentation of new Columbus State-Ohio Wesleyan Partnership Awards to seven current Columbus State students. The academic scholarships are worth at least $20,000 per year, renewable. Partnership Award recipients must have a grade point average of at least 3.5.
Ohio Wesleyan President Rock Jones, Ph.D., said the articulation agreement benefits Columbus State students seeking to earn bachelor’s degrees and experience residential college life at a nationally recognized, private liberal arts university committed to providing an internationally focused curriculum that links academic theory with real-world experience.
“We are pleased to be working with our Columbus State colleagues to expand and streamline educational opportunities for their students,” Jones said. “Columbus State students now will be able to quickly and easily determine which courses will count toward completion of their Ohio Wesleyan bachelor’s degrees. These students also will benefit from having access to Ohio Wesleyan’s 93 majors, sequences, and courses of study, and to our 23 varsity sports and countless other educational and recreational opportunities.”
Ohio Wesleyan awards Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, and Bachelor of Music degrees. The university currently serves 1,850 students from nearly every state and nearly 60 countries.
Columbus State President David Harrison, Ph.D., said the articulation agreement enhances educational opportunities for area students who wish to earn their associate degrees before transferring to a four-year college to complete their bachelor’s degrees. Columbus State is an open-enrollment state community college that serves more than 30,000 students at 11 central Ohio locations, including Delaware.
“The guarantee allows students and families to develop an academic and a financial plan around two years at Columbus State and two at Ohio Wesleyan,” Harrison said. “This will open the door to a great liberal arts education for students who may not otherwise have the opportunity.”
Under the articulation agreement, students are encouraged to complete their Columbus State Associate of Art or Associate of Science degree before transferring to Ohio Wesleyan. If they transfer before completing their associate degrees, they will be able to earn their Columbus State degrees in absentia using Ohio Wesleyan course credit.
