Ms. Ho Goes to Washington

Late this month, Ohio Wesleyan Associate Chaplain Lisa Ho will find herself in the company of Vice President Joe Biden, Presidential Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett, and Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) as she attends a “national gathering of some of the most influential and leading clergy” for a national convening and briefing on the faith response to gun violence. By invitation only, the gathering will take place January 28-29. The convening will seek to accomplish three main goals:
To discuss the unique role of faith to heal the soul of America from gun violence and commit to an effort to do so collectively and in our faith traditions. To be trained by leading experts in the gun violence prevention field and receive media and messaging training for local, state, and national faith responses. Meet with White House and Congressional leaders about the need to address gun violence and to be briefed on their proposals to address them.Serving as Honorary Co-Conveners of the gathering are a variety of faith traditions from Berkeley, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Detroit, and Los Angeles. “I’m honored and humbled by this opportunity to sit with some of our nation’s top faith leaders to address the issue of gun violence in America,” says Ho. “This issue is divisive and will require us to respond with a prophetic imagination that calls us to our better selves—to put aside our own preconceptions and misconceptions about the balance of liberty and protecting our fellow citizens—and especially, to protect our children.”
