Mandela Tribute Features Voice of Ohio Wesleyan Graduate

Ohio Wesleyan University graduate Timothy Moloi is featured singing “The Impossible Dream” in a new video that honors the life of former-South African President Nelson Mandela.
Moloi, a 1998 Ohio Wesleyan graduate, was born and raised in Soweto and is one’s of South Africa’s leading vocalists. He previously has sung at the opening ceremonies of the 2010 FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) World Cup, the Africa Peace Awards, and Oprah Winfrey’s Live Your Best Life event.
The new Mandela tribute, commissioned by South African financial services provider FirstRand Group, features a black background with inspiring words gliding across the screen to form an indelible image of the former president.
Mandela died Dec. 5 at age 95 and was remembered Dec. 10 at a ceremony that included remarks from U.S. President Barack Obama. Mandela spent 27 years in prison before becoming South Africa’s first black president and helping to lead the republic out of apartheid.
Following Mandela’s death, Ohio Wesleyan joined others across the country and around the world in flying its flag at half-staff to recognize and honor his memory.
“He, indeed, is an example of a moral leader in the global society,” said Ohio Wesleyan President Rock Jones. “His work to end apartheid in South Africa demonstrates the power of one man to make meaningful, inspirational change.”
