Lights Up at Selby Field

For the first time in 81 years, the Ohio Wesleyan sports teams that play at Selby Field will be able to compete under stadium lights.
With the new light towers and the turf that was installed four years ago, Selby has become a state-of-the-art facility.
Football, field hockey, track and field, and men’s and women’s lacrosse will have the privilege that men’s and women’s soccer have had for years. Athletics Director Roger Ingles says this means great things for OWU teams, which can now play “on a great surface at much more convenient times for parents, students and fans.”
The first night football game will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, versus Wooster. Chartwells catering, student groups, and alumni will be hosting a tailgate party in hopes that the OWU and the Delaware communities will celebrate together.
Ingles says non-varsity OWU sports can also benefit “…because of the artificial surface and lights we can offer times to intramurals and clubs in Selby that we couldn’t before,” he said.
Ohio Wesleyan has also hosted numerous North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) contests.
Ingles says the stadium sets an example for the rest of the sports world.
“Selby is a gem not only shining bright for OWU but for all Division III,” he says. “It is a different kind of classroom but a classroom nevertheless, where many great lessons are learned by our students.”
