International Affairs Expert to Speak Jan. 29 at Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio – John R. Deni, a professor at the U.S. Army War College’s Strategic Studies Institute, will discuss “The United States and Asia: The Future of Military Power and Conflict” when he speaks Jan. 29 at Ohio Wesleyan University.

Deni, Ph.D., research professor of Joint, Interagency, Intergovernmental, and Multinational Security Studies, will speak at 7 p.m. Jan. 29 in the Benes Rooms inside Ohio Wesleyan’s Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware. His free presentation is sponsored by Ohio Wesleyan’s International Studies Program and the Arneson Institute for Practical Politics and Public Affairs.

At the Strategic Studies Institute, Deni researches, analyzes, writes, and speaks on topics including security cooperation with allies and partners; military interoperability; the NATO alliance, its structure, and its operations; American military posture overseas; and cyber security. His publications include “Strategic Landpower in the Indo-Asia-Pacific” (Parameters, 2013) and the book, Alliance Management and Maintenance: Restructuring NATO for the 21st Century (Ashgate, 2007).

Prior to joining the Strategic Studies Institute in 2011, Deni worked for eight years as a political adviser for senior U.S. military commanders in Europe. He spent two years as a strategic planner specializing in the military-to-military relationship between the United States and its European allies. While in Europe, he served as an adjunct lecturer at Germany’s Heidelberg University’s Institute for Political Science.

Before that, Deni spent seven years in Washington, D.C., as a consultant specializing in national security issues for the U.S. Departments of Defense, Energy, and State. He earned his doctorate in international affairs from George Washington University and his master’s degree in U.S. foreign policy from American University in Washington, D.C.
