‘Hoops for Hope’ Tournament
The campus quiet of Ohio Wesleyan University’s holiday break will be broken with a flurry of activity at Branch Rickey Arena on December 29 and 30 during the fourth annual “Hoops for Hope” women’s basketball tournament.
The tournament, organized by Nan Carney-DeBord, head coach of the Battling Bishop women’s basketball team and a member of the WBCA (Women’s Basketball Coaches Association) board of directors, will raise money for breast cancer awareness, education, and research.
During the first game at 6 p.m. December 29, Washington University (last year’s national champion team) will play Hope College (runner-up for last year’s national championship). At 8 p.m., OWU will face Bluffton in the nightcap.
On December 30, the consolation game will begin at 1 p.m. and the championship game at 3 p.m.
Admission to tournament games is free, but monetary donations will be accepted at the door for the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund ®, which supports scientific research related to women’s cancers. The WBCA board established the fund six years ago. It operates in partnership with the V Foundation for Cancer Research. Both entities honor basketball coaches from North Carolina State who died from cancer: Kay Yow and Jim Valvano.
The sponsor for this year’s tournament is the Old Bag of Nails Pub. All games can be watched live online at Stream OWU:
