Historian, Author Douglas Brinkley to Speak Feb. 27 at Ohio Wesleyan
DELAWARE, Ohio – Historian Douglas Brinkley, Ph.D., has been dubbed “America’s new past master” by the Chicago Tribune and the “man who knows more about the presidency than just about any human being alive” by CNN. On Feb. 27, Brinkley will speak at Ohio Wesleyan University, discussing “Vietnam, Walter Cronkite, and Today’s Foreign Policy Lessons.”
Brinkley will speak at 7 p.m. in the Benes Rooms inside Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware. His discussion is the university’s 25th annual John Kennard Eddy Memorial Lecture on World Politics. It is free and open to the public.
Brinkley, a professor of history and Baker Institute Fellow at Rice University, also is a best-selling author with six of his books selected as New York Times Notable Books of the Year. Brinkley’s 2012 biography of legendary TV news anchor Walter Cronkite, “Cronkite,” was selected as a Washington Post Book of the Year.
“My hope is, at the end of my career, somebody can look at my entire work and see I met my objective, which was trying to tell great stories about 20th century America, in all areas,” Brinkley said in an interview with Naval History.
Brinkley contributes to many publications including The New York Times, Boston Globe, Rolling Stone, and Atlantic Monthly. He serves as a contributing editor at Vanity Fair and American Heritage.
He currently is working on the third volume of his U.S. conservation history series, tentatively titled “Franklin D. Roosevelt: The Renewal of America.” Brinkley completed his bachelor’s degree at The Ohio State University and received his doctorate in U.S. diplomatic history from Georgetown University.
