Hindustan Times Discusses Ohio Wesleyan’s Collaboration with Lady Shri Ram College

DELAWARE, OHIO and NEW DELHI, INDIA – Colleges and universities in India are working to ensure that their students have an international educational experience. In the June 19 edition of the Hindustan Times, the publication discusses Ohio Wesleyan University’s collaboration with Lady Shri Ram College for Women in New Delhi.
A contingent of OWU students, administrators, and faculty traveled to India from March 9-18 to participate in a joint exploration with Lady Shri Ram College of “Gandhi Today: Perspectives and Possibilities.”
“We found parallels between the ideas of Gandhi and [Martin Luther] King,” professor Kanika Khandelwal of Lady Shri Ram College told the newspaper. “The team from Ohio then came and took the discussion further. So, we started this programme which provided a very rich insight into ideas of peace and conflict.”
Topics addressed in the joint study included Gandhi, Ecology, and Developmentality; Gandhi: The Psychoanalyst of the Nation; Peace and Reconciliation; Gandhi and the Food Question; and Gandhi and the Practices and Politics of Visual Representation.
The relationship between Ohio Wesleyan and Lady Shri Ram began in 2010, when Ohio Wesleyan was selected as one of 10 U.S. colleges and universities to participate in the International Academic Partners Program (IAPP) in India. The initiative is overseen by the Institute of International Education (IIE), a nonprofit organization that works to create study and training programs for students, educators, and professionals worldwide. The U.S. Department of Education also provides support for the India initiative.
