Field Hockey Team Plans MS Fund-raiser
Although most opponents meet on the field to compete, the Ohio Wesleyan and Trine women’s field hockey teams will come together on Friday to raise awareness for Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
While the Trine and Ohio Wesleyan teams will be donning different-colored uniforms, they will all be wearing orange-colored wrist bands to call attention to this disabling disease.
Ohio Wesleyan field hockey coach Marge Redmond feels strongly about raising awareness for MS. While there are a number of breast cancer awareness fund-raisers, she feels that MS doesn’t get the publicity it should.
“MS is not a designer disease; it does not get much attention from the press because it does not have a notable spokesperson with the disease,” says Redmond. She also has been personally touched by the disease since several people in her life have been affected by it.
The team will be raising money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society through dorm storming and a 50/50 raffle at the Trine game on Friday afternoon. Pamphlets and brochures also will be available to give attendees a chance to learn more about the disease.
