Brian Rellinger Shares OWU’s Google Glass Experience

Brian Rellinger, Ed.D., OWU’s chief information officer, publishes an article in EdTech Magazine about Google Glass and its potential use in higher education. In it, he shares examples of how colleges, including Ohio Wesleyan, are experimenting with Glass.
One OWU user is botany/microbiology professor Chris Wolverton, Ph.D., who states: “One of the struggles of teaching lab techniques is helping students visualize how to do something. I’m eager to use Glass to produce videos that capture a real first-person perspective to working in the lab, so that things seem more familiar when they’re actually there doing the experiment.”

Sean Kay, Ph.D.
Sean Kay
Sean Kay, Ph.D., OWU professor of politics and government, writes about NATO’s role in the Russia-Ukraine situation in The National Interest, one of the world’s leading foreign policy journals, and discusses the topic in an interview with the Strategic Studies Institute, part of the U.S. Army War College.
“An outcome of this crisis in which Ukraine embraces neutrality is a key element to achieving NATO’s common interest in de-escalation while also punishing Russia economically and politically for its illegal actions in Crimea,” Kay writes in The National Interest commentary, which later is excerpted and shared by the Russian news organization RIA Novosti.

Jada Hamilton ’04
Jada Hamilton is chosen to receive the Quaker Foundation’s Alumnus of the Year-Previous Scholarship Recipient Award as a 2000 graduate of New Philadelphia (Ohio) High School.
After earning her high school diploma, Hamilton enrolled at Ohio Wesleyan, graduating summa cum laude in 2004 in genetics and psychology. In 2013, she joined the faculty of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, where she is an assistant member and assistant attending psychologist in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

Brad Turnwald ’13
Brad Turnwald, an OWU biochemistry major now enrolled in Stanford University’s biomedical science doctoral program, talks with his hometown newspaper about his educational career, which includes earning a 2014 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship.
In the article, Turnwald credits Ohio Wesleyan with helping to develop is interest in science: “I was inspired by the idea that I could find something totally new through my experiments.”

Evan Reas ’07
Evan Reas, cofounder of Circle, a mobile app that lets people know when friends are close, discusses the value of persistence and focus with the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he earned his MBA in 2009.
In the article, Reas recalls a memorable OWU experience: “When I was an undergrad, I went to a small village in Africa with a volunteer program. We needed to dig an 8-foot hole for a latrine. I was told it would take a week. I didn’t sleep for 26 hours, and then it was done.”
