Biblical Scholar to Speak Feb. 9 at Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio – Ryan Stokes, Ph.D., assistant professor of Old Testament at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, will discuss “The Rise of Satan” when he speaks at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at Ohio Wesleyan University.

Stokes – author of the forthcoming book “The Rise of Satan: Sin, Suffering, and the Superhuman in the Hebrew Scriptures and Early Jewish Literature” – will speak in Benes Room B of Ohio Wesleyan’s Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware. His free, public presentation is sponsored by OWU’s Department of Ancient, Medieval, and Renaissance Studies.

Stokes’ research interests include both the Old and New Testaments and additional writings outside the canon of scripture, such as the Dead Sea Scrolls. At Southwestern Seminary, he also serves as director of the Tandy Manuscript Research Center. He joined the school in 2011 after earning his doctorate in Old Testament/Hebrew Bible from Yale University.
