Award-Winning Journalist to Discuss Rage across Islamic World
Robin Wright
DELAWARE, OHIO – Foreign policy analyst and award-winning journalist Robin Wright will present “Rock the Casbah: Rage and Rebellion across the Islamic World” at 7 p.m. March 27 at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Wright will speak in the Benes Rooms of Ohio Wesleyan’s Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave. Afterward, she will sign copies of her 2011 book of the same title. The event is free and open to the public.
During her career, Wright has reported from more than 140 countries on six continents and for outlets including The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, and The New Yorker. Her foreign tours have included the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Wright has been a fellow at Yale, Duke, Stanford, the Brookings Institution, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and the U.S. Institute of Peace. Her awards include the U.N. Correspondents Gold Medal, the National Magazine Award, and the Overseas Press Club Award for “best reporting in any medium requiring exceptional courage and initiative.”
The American Academy of Diplomacy also selected Wright as its journalist of the year in 2004. In addition to “Rock the Casbah,” she also is the author of “Dreams and Shadows: The Future of the Middle East,” “The Last Great Revolution: Turmoil and Transformation in Iran,” “Sacred Rage: The Wrath of Militant Islam,” and “In the Name of God: The Khomeini Decade.”
Wright’s presentation is the university’s 2011-2012 John Kennard Eddy Lecture on World Politics. This lecture series honors the life of Ohio Wesleyan student “Jeff” Eddy, killed in an automobile accident in 1988.
